Sourdough Waffles

I’m a practical girl. I’m a girl’s girl. I’m a girl who loves winter air and maple syrup. A bookworm, finding solace and joy in the pages of a well-written story. I’m the kind of girl who slips into pajamas by 8 PM with a mug of tea, embracing the comfort of home and relaxation.

I’m a delight-in-the-simple-pleasures-of-life kinda girl. A re-watch-the-same-show-dozens-of-times girlie, finding comfort and familiarity in its scenes and characters. A girl who loves an ice-cold beer, even though my blog is called With Love and Wine. With that said, I’m a hint of irony, with a big side of sarcasm.

I’m a girl who once girl-bossed too hard, and now prefers the slower life of homemaking.

I’m a waffles-over-pancakes girlie, hands-down. And in recent years, I’ve become a sourdough girlie, finding joy in the alchemy of flour, water, and time as I nurture my starter. So here’s to a plate full of absolute joy and happiness: sourdough waffles topped with delicious drizzles of maple. Here’s to a slow morning in, nestled up with your favorite person or perhaps a beloved rerun of your favorite show. Here’s to all the things I am and all the things I love – especially sourdough waffles. 


  • 2 cups active sourdough starter
  • 2 eggs
  • 3 TBSP coconut oil, melted
  • 2 TBSP maple syrup
  • Dash of salt
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Toppings: sliced strawberries, maple syrup, butter – or whatever you like to enjoy your waffles with!


  • Whisk together all ingredients (except the toppings of course)
  • Pour 1/2 cup of the batter into a waffle iron, cooking a couple minutes before checking to ensure they’re golden brown (these can also be made into pancakes if that’s more your thing)
  • Serve with toppings of choice!
